Situated 10 km to the south of the Mont Sainte-Odile, and half way between Strasbourg and Colmar, the medium altitude mountain resort of the Hohwald enjoys an exceptional amount of sun, in summer and in winter. Rich meadows surrounded by majestic firs and beech trees characterise this charming site. Populated in olden times by stockbreeders who came from Switzerland and Austria, very early on the Hohwald attracted city-dwellers in search of nature and tranquillity. Forests and meadows belonging to Barr, Breitenbach and Albé gave birth to the village in 1867. Today a number of varied activities are on offer - 120 km of way-marked, perfectly maintained footpaths offer hikers varied walks which allow them to see some splendid panoramas as they follow the winding trails. In summer, the site is perfect for mountain biking, tennis and mini-golf. In winter, you can discover the delights of skiing and snowshoe walks.
The farm-inns offer a way of tasting local produce (cheese, foie gras, honey...). Numerous accommodation possibilities and many varied restaurants.
